About Eddie Arcaro

George Edward Arcaro (February 19, 1916 – November 14, 1997), known as Eddie Arcaro, was an American jockey in Thoroughbred racing. He won 4,779 races, including a record 17 U.S. Triple Crown races, and remains the only jockey to have ridden two U.S. Triple Crown winners: Whirlaway in 1941 and Citation in 1948. Arcaro won the Kentucky Derby five times, tying a record later equaled by Bill Hartack, and won the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes six times each. He was North America's leading jockey by earnings six times and retired with career purse earnings of $30,039,543. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1958 while still an active rider.
