About Malhar Rao Holkar

Malhar Rao Holkar (16 March 1693 – 20 May 1766) was a noble subedar of the Maratha Empire and the first Ruler of Indore from 1732 until his death in 1766. He was one of the early officers along with Ranoji Scindia (Shinde), appointed by Shrimant Peshwa Bajirao I to help spread Maratha rule to the northern states, and was given the estate of Indore to rule. He was the founder of the Holkar dynasty that ruled Malwa.
